What is Duolingo Max?
If you already use Duolingo, Max is the tier that adds AI on top. The two headline features are Roleplay, where you chat with characters in realistic scenarios, and Explain My Answer, which tells you why a response was right or wrong.
We enjoyed Roleplay most. Ordering coffee or planning a trip in your target language feels less like a drill and more like practice for real life. Explanations are helpful for grammar points the regular app glosses over, and Video Call, a spoken chat with a character, is another fun addition.
The base app stays free, but Max costs $29.99/mo, which is steep for casual learners. AI features are also available only for some languages, so check yours before upgrading.
