Khanmigo

Khanmigo has a refreshingly old-fashioned philosophy for an AI tutor: it won't just do your homework. Instead it asks guiding questions, hints at the next step and encourages students to explain their thinking.

We found that approach works especially well for math, where it walks through problems one step at a time. It also helps with writing, reading and other subjects, and teachers get tools for lesson planning and creating activities.

For learners and parents, it's $4/mo, which is easy to justify next to private tutoring. The trade-off is patience: students who want quick answers may find the Socratic style frustrating. And like any AI, it can occasionally make mistakes, so it works best alongside teachers rather than instead of them.
